Maypole is a new voluntary organisation run by volunteers - by mothers and professionals who understand the stresses separation entails, and the lack of support available for women.

There are many organisations supporting parents, but these, in line with family law and government policy,  tend to focus on the needs of the child, and the father/ child relationship. Whilst these needs are very important, the views and needs of mothers are often forgotten.

Maypole aims to fill the gap, to provide support specially for mothers facing separation and divorce, and to raise awareness of the issues they face.

Why Maypole?

For hundreds of years the decorated maypole has been a symbol of fertility, celebrating women’s ability to create new life, and bring hope and joy to the world.

The maypole therefore also symbolises hope for your future, as you move into a new phase in your life:

The ribbons of the maypole also represent our connected lives with our children, and wider family, interwoven with one another, forever joined.

Yet at one end the ribbons are also free of one another, combining connection and independence through life.

How Maypole began

Maypole is founded by two mothers whose personal experiences have inspired them to set up for others what they could not find themselves - specialist support for women involved in separation and divorce.
